WHO ARE WE

The Bahamas Maritime Cadet Corps was started during the month of January in 2004. BMCC is a program instituted under the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, to introduce and prepare high school students of grade 10 through 12 for employment in the maritime industry. 

The program is conducted in conjunction with the Ministry of National Security via The Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the Ministry of Education.  BMCC is open to all Gevernment and Private Senior High School students having a G.P.A of 2.50 and above.  BMCC has over 400 students enrolled in its program which inculdes students in New Providence, Abaco, Grand Bahama, Inagua and Eleuthera.

 

 

The Bahamas Maritime Authority  offers attractive scholarships to young academically sound Bahamians who are keen to train for an exciting and challenging career in the Maritime Industry - which is gaining increasing national importance.

 

 

The programme aims to upgrade the qualifications of all Bahamian Seafarers.

BMCC Training Classes

Training facilities for the BMCC classes are located at the C.R. Walker Senior High School on Bailou Hill Road and Market Street. The program is designed to introduce students to the industry at the entry level or basic rating level. Classes are conducted twice weekly Tuesday & thursday between the hours of 1600 (4:00p.m.) and 1800 (6:00p.m.) during regular school semesters.

 

Conducted by retired and active Royal Bahamas Defence Force Officers and Personnel. Currently, there are 189 students enrolled, representing 31 high schools . The curriculum includes navigation, seamanship, rules of the road, and vessel husbandry, firefighting, Survival and First Aid, with a mandatory attendance and completion by the 12th graders of a Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) programme, per IMO Convention requirements on maritime safety.
